I haven't flown with Air India myself, but a site I find helpful when trying to figure out if I want to fly with a particular airline is Skytrax, which lists tons of reviews from passengers on hundreds of different carriers — they're even listed by route in some cases, so you can find people who made the LA to Delhi journey if you like. http://www.airlinequality.com

Here's three pages of reviews from people who've recently flown Air India: http://www.airlinequality.com/Forum/air_india.htm
For what it's worth, Air India is a 3-star airline (out of five stars) which puts it solidly in the "average" or "satisfactory" category. For comparison, most US-carriers are also 3-star airlines (with the exception of Jet Blue, which is 4 stars.)

Hope that helps! Have a safe flight.

Try Rediff Airfare search. It gives all airlines( except Indian Airlines) schedules and charges and you can pick your choice.

Apart from that booking at arzoo.com is good. They normally have cheaper fares than most all airlines and travel sites

Its not normally the same airline which may be cheaper for all sectors. Different times, different sectors…different prices..

Singapore's Changi Airport also provides the same.

You can do it at Hong Kong as well but you will need to take a visa on arrival and go out on your own. I have done it and its not free, you have to pay some money. You need to have a good number of hours to pull it off.

If ouy're gonna be off the beaten track it'd probably be much easier to cash USD or GBP – Why not just take that or Travellers Cheques?

Why not just use an ATM when you get there?

I'm sure there's no limit to how much you can take – within reason (I doubt you'll be wandering around with a suitcase stuffed with millions of dollars – even if you were I'm sure there's no law against it)

Why would you need proof of income – am I missing something?
