Hi bro!
I love to travel too, and i can say that is more cheaper than people used to think, I love this locations that you suggest, alaska is unbelievable, but i must say that i like hot weather than cold. One destination on South America that is amazing is Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, they use to call as "The Wonderful City", and i agree with them… that place is something else.
You can find natural beauties, cultural stuff and a hot nightlife, when i travelled there i book everything from one good agency that give everything i want, i used to travel by myself but the was pretty handy and i could just relax and let them to hire the hostel, i bought good tours too, and i did a crazy hang gliding, man.. is crazy… you must do this once in life… oh yeah! lol

The best site is travelworm.com. They have package prices hotel and air significantly lower than other sites. Try for the last week in March M-F, that's four nights.
I would rent a car. Try US car rental in Las Vegas. They are cheaper than Enterprise and all those.
